create bonus episodes for your podcast

In August 2014, the McElroy brothers did an episode of My Brother, My Brother and Me where they played Dungeons & Dragons together. It was a little experiment. A break from the podcast’s usual advice show format. The audience loved it, and the brothers spun it off into The Adventure Zone, now a long-running podcast in its own right, with live shows that pack out theatres every year.

I’m Matt Boothman, and I want to help you capture a bit of that magic, with a one-off episode of your podcast where you play a roleplaying game.

Whatever your podcast’s usual format, a one-off roleplaying game episode:

  • Makes great bonus content for your paying subscribers

  • Shows your regular listeners a different side of you

  • Gives people who love roleplaying game shows, but don’t listen to you, a reason to check out your podcast

But maybe you don’t know how to play a roleplaying game, or the ins and outs of editing a roleplaying game episode.

I can help with that.

(If you already play roleplaying games on your podcast, this service is not for you.)

Early adopter offer for the first 3 customers

Get in early and get your episode free.

I’ll help you pick a roleplaying game you and your audience will love, and run that game for you on air, using your usual recording setup. All free of charge. Just for being quick on the draw.

If you’d like me to clean up or edit the audio, or add sound design, see the paid-for packages below instead. This offer only covers the standard package (still worth £799!), no extras. One per podcast.

As much help as you want

I’ll definitely do all this

(for only £799)

  1. Listen to your podcast to get a feel for the show and your personalities.

  2. Shortlist some roleplaying games that fit your energy and the themes of your podcast.

  3. Have a call with you to answer any questions and plan this thing.

  4. Run the game for you, on the air, showing you the ropes as we go.

We’ll record using your podcast’s usual setup, so you don’t need any new logins or equipment.

If that’s all you need, just give the audio from our recording to your editor and producer as usual, and get ready to wow your audience with your adventurousness and creativity!

I can do this too if you need

(for £1,999, total)

  1. Clean up the audio from our recording (removing noise, balancing levels, and so on).

  2. Edit the audio (cutting out ums and ahs, circular chat, or boring rules clarifications).

  3. Send you the edited audio, ready for your producer to add your usual bumpers, music, intros, and so on, before releasing the episode to your eager audience!

If I’m editing the audio, I’ll ask for a chat with you first, to agree on a brief. I’ll ask things like: roughly how long do you want the finished episode to be? Do you want your audience to hear us getting stuff wrong and going off on tangents, or do you want the story we tell together to be the main thing that comes through? Should I bleep any foul language?

And if you want more…

(for £2,799, total)

If you’d like this episode to be a real showcase piece, I’ll do everything covered so far, and add immersive sound design to bring our game to life.

The shimmer of a magic spell…

The sharp report of a trusty revolver…

The guttural roar of a revving engine…

Your listeners won’t just feel like they’re at the table with you. They’ll feel like they’re fully in the world of our game!

Let’s do this

Put my experience to work

Who am I again? I’m Matt Boothman, the creator and host of Merely Roleplayers, a podcast where theatrical people play roleplaying games.

Unlike most roleplaying game podcasts, my cast aren’t roleplaying game nerds. Most of them had never played a roleplaying game before we sat down to record our first episode. I made learning and playing the game easy, so they could relax, have fun, and put on a great show for the audience. And I’d love to do the same for you.

I’ve also run games for more seasoned roleplayers and improvisers, like the two-part game of Heart: The City Beneath I streamed with Actual Play UK.

And I regularly run a range of roleplaying games for complete strangers at conventions, including UK Games Expo in Birmingham, Airecon in Harrogate, and Dragonmeet in London. I usually bring less well known games, so I’ve had plenty of practice teaching the rules as we go, and making sure everyone has fun (and we tell a whole story) within a set time limit.
